Can you imagine? It was a beautiful, sunny day, and each of us felt a deep sense of happiness as our smiles of volunteerism reached two incredible orphanages, we had the privilege of serving in December 2024 and March 2025.
First, there was Child Haus in Diliman in Quezon City, and then Home of Love, Missionaries of Charity of Sisters of Mother Teresa, in Antipolo City. Both orphanages are filled with children who carry more courage than most of us could ever imagine, children who wake up every day, facing challenges that no child should have to bear, yet still find the strength to smile.
Child Haus in Diliman Quezon City, where bravery meets Joy
Child Haus is a temporary shelter for cancer patients and other chronically ill children and adults, many of whom come from far provinces to seek treatment in Metro Manila. It offers free lodging, food, and emotional support during their medical journey.
Our visit to Child Haus was filled with energy, laughter, and quiet courage. We brought toys, food, and games, but more importantly, we brought our time, attention, and open hearts. At first, we weren’t sure how the children would respond. But within minutes, they took the lead, inviting us to color with them, sing songs, and join in playful games. Their eyes shone with a spark that was truly unforgettable.
One of the most touching moments came at the end of the program when the children and their guardians surprised us with a song they had prepared. It was such a heartfelt gesture that stayed with us. As they handed us handmade origami flowers, each with a small letter saying, “A simple thank you but so meaningful,” we were deeply moved.
In that moment, we left Child Haus humbled by the strength of the children and deeply grateful to the caregivers who make each day feel like a celebration of life. As volunteers from genieX, we knew our mission had been fulfilled. We came to give, but we left with even more gratitude, connection, and memories that will stay with us forever.
